I heard a CD-9 and Rega Isis yesterday at my local dealer yesterday and I am now ruined for life.

WOWZA! X 10

I will now be saving every penny towards an Audio Research player/DAC. Maybe the CD-6 will help me get there quicker, however I am willing to dig in for the long hall if necessary.

Proper media server with DAC8 or DSPre > any CD player in their lineup.

Stop thinking you need a transport!

Honestly, I'm not sure arc is the best with dacs of you want to use computer audio.
I agree with E that many people don't need a spinner, and I know for a fact that the arc cd6 and 9 are spinners first, dacs second.

I would like a spinner, but I want a top quality dac as my highest priority to use with my Mac. I just returned my cd6 and ordered a esoteric k03. They are in the same financial ballpark. Talk to Ivan.

Marc...the sonic output from a DAC is not only about the DAC chipset, clocks, etc...(i.e., digital architecture design and implementation) but also about how the digital componentry is bridged into the analog output stage, the design of the analog output stage, the robustness of the power supplies, etc...ARC is very good in those areas and they may have just as much of an influence on the final sonic outcome as the digital architecture/implementation in their DACs/spinners. I would argue that Bryston's success with the BDA-a and BDA-2 largely comes to their expertise in the analog output stage and power supply competence. Different ways to skin a cat.

In any case, let us know what you think of the K-03 and how it compares to the CD-6 (to the extent that you have enough of an aural memory to make the compare) and congrats on an excellent new spinner/DAC

I agree with you. The cd6 is certainly not bad, I just think there is better. I can't wait to compare and contrast.

In the digital world, designs/developments have been changing very rapidly from year-to-year.

I mean for the same price, or close to it. Unfortunately, many of us can't hear everything that's out there and make a really informed decision on what they like.

Agreed...I was giving you a bit of a hard time The K-03 is in between CD 6 and Ref CD 9 price wise I believe at $11Kish. In any case, enjoy the new spinner and look forward to hear your comments. How are you enjoying the rest of your new ARC system? I hope everything is developing nicely for you
