ok, last stupid quetion, I promise! ..
So if you're not using the Phono stages (have it turned off), are those 6 tubes up top never energized then? or will they wear down no matter what? |

Here are some pics of my C2500 when I did it (it's the same principle on the C1100): Before: During: After:

Do I ever need to swap tubes for stages I don’t use? I presume the C2600 will blink something if a tube is burnt out. On another thread long ago, it was recommended not to leave them burnt out. I suppose I could use less expensive tubes on those without I’ll effect?
This thread reminded me I’ve been on the same line stage for a couple of years heavy use, and am now burning in another pair of GLs. |

I asked McIntosh that question, as the 6 tubes set aside for Photo on my C1100 (up top) will not get used on mine anytime soon since I don't play phono.. apparently they can go bad and nothing is affected on the others... but my question is, how would you ever know? Do the tubes not turn green and stay yellow if there is a problem? |

Nice. Need to remember to swap these every other year. |
