I have read that the SDS has been discontinued and is to be replaced by a newly designed series of analog speed controllers which perform even better. If I recall there will be three models available at different price points.

SDS (used) before the ring clamp, IMHO.

I must be odd. I preferred the SDS with my Classic 1 but I preferred my Classic 3 without the SDS. I never tried the outer ring since I am klutzy and think I will damage something putting it on or lowering the needle. I really like the Stillpoints weight over the VPI center weight.

Mat posted a picture of the ADS on it's way to dealers. Right now I think they are only shipping the middle model which is $999. I though it was supposed to be $899 but it seems the price went up before they shipped. Unfortunately, if it's as good as they say it is, it will kill the resale of the SDS for existing owners. But that could be great for anyone in the market for one.

A few have asked which cartridge I was going to use. I planned on using my Ortofon 2m blue but thought what the heck and pulled the trigger on a VAS Nova, it should arrive the same day as the table.

SDS and periphery ring both make a difference. Expensive but worth it, and the combination (together with center weight) is how (I think) Harry originally envisioned it. The ring takes out resonance from the platter and makes tracking easier, an audible difference if the rest of your setup is revealing enough to show the difference. The SDS takes pitch stability and quietness a little further, and makes changing from 33 to 45 easier. I bought a Soundsmith Sussuro for my setup...detailed, smooth, sublime listening! With the 3d arm, I can't imagine how much better it could possibly get!

Thanks for the input guys. The VAS Nova arrived today and the table will be here tomorrow. I have now ordered the periphery ring and I will check into the new analog drive speed controller when it is available.

Table has arrived and I got it setup last night. It was late enough I only had time for one album, Eric Clapton's latest. First impression is it sounds great. I will be doing a lot of listening every evening this week and the periphery ring should be here tomorrow so I can see what it adds.
