A pair of KT170 tubes arrived today. Big box tubes, thicker packaging, and they do fit on the old Fire Bottle amp. Don't sound bad, either!

I have one of those amps. I tried some of 6DJ8/6922s and when returning to the Soviet tubes came to the conclusion that they were better sounding. Also tried 6cg7. Ultimately settled on 6h6n, a Soviet twin, medium gain, well designed tube. Lots of flash getter. And a shield between sections. |

I have a pre-amp LP-3a made labelled as a proto due to the original buyer requesting the russian tube complement and a remote control volume.
It has 3 6H1Pi(6N1P) tubes and a GE 6CG7. The amp that is with it is a 6v6 in the same long form factor and has one 6H1Pi as well. Love these amps. The vocal & guitar textures are phenomenal and they're a real joy to listen to. |

Although, Sovtek is making new 6N1P's I'm sure they're good. Anyone hear 'em? |

I stopped by the Inspire toy factory this afternoon and discovered Dennis is really serious about the 300B sound.
Another 300B stereo amp playing it's heart out with a brand new set of production Western electric 300B's. [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] |

The Russian 6N23P is a close equivalent to 6DJ8/692. The 6N1P is a good tube. At least some of them are. Most people like the Russian production better than the China ones. The NOS Russian 6N1P-EV are well thought of. |

My heavens look at that indicator on the volume. In the other photo it's even further. Sweet honey mustard.
