The Oppo 105 cannot stream 4K. If you are seeing a better Netflix picture using the 105 versus the Roku Ultra which is 4K, you must have a defective unit or the wrong settings. |

I don't have the ability to stream 4K at this time. When I want the best audio visual experience I just use the Oppo 205 with with a 4K disc in it. That is awesome. I am on my 2nd Roku Ultra since I also thought it may be defective. They both were the same poor audio/video quality and not usable for me. I have them on the correct settings hard wired from my router. Maybe since I am using a JVC 4k projector onto a 100" screen it shows the differences more.

ROKU or?

I too have a JVC 4k (e-shift) projector and (due to projector not being native 4k) it takes a fair amount of changes in the setting to make the streamer, the Oppo 205, and the projector work together properly. So the issue is likely not the Roku Ultra. Which JVC projector model do you have? Last edited by nicoff; 03-26-2019 at 11:51 AM. |

nicoff, I have a RS400 JVC projector 4k (e-shift). If you have any settings that you would suggest I would be happy to try them out. I have also tried the Roku Ultra connected to my 2 channel system for Pandora background music. I didn't think that sounded very good compared to an Oppo 103 that I have streaming Pandora. Pandora is not the greatest sounding streaming service but it does sound better through the Oppo than the Roku Ultra to me.

I have the JVC 4910. Here are a few things that I learned from the AVS forums. First, the Oppo 205 will try to send out a full native signal (4k and HDCP 2.2) but your projector (and mine) can only do quasy 4k and HDCP 1.4. So a converter box is needed to change signal from HDCP 2.2 to HDCP 1.4. I bought one from Monoprice (Blackbird 4k Pro). Our projectors cannot do HDR either. Therefore make sure that the Oppo is set to HDR off and have it convert everything to SDR. One more thing: the projector can freeze if sent frames higher than 24fps. Then the colors in the projector itself need to be changed I experimented with various settings. After a few freezes and having to restart the system a few times, I decided that I should consider a true 4k projector with the latest HDR capabilities. Fwiw, JVC just came out with a line of projectors that do true, native 4k that would eliminate having to do all those changes. That's the way I am leaning now. Just as you noted, the Oppo has excellent audio processing. I let it process the audio from cable TV and Apple TV before sending it to my Bryston SP3 preamp. So your experience is the same as mine. |

nicoff, thanks for the suggestions. I think it may be more of a hassle than I want to do at this time. I may take your suggestion of upgrading to a true 4k projector though.
