Default MX150 with Directstream and snowmass?

Since the DirectStream w/BridgeII is so good I only use that for streaming music via HP AIO computer>Music on HD>Roon>Roon iPhone app>Wi-Fi>router>ethernet>BridgeII>DirectStream>XLR>MX150 .

Vinyl>turntable>phono preamp>XLR>MX150

Previously I had an separate preamp for music but had a hard time getting the sub to sound good, so I never used a sub for music. Since I got the MX150 with RoomPerfect, sub implementation is simple and sounded better than a separate preamp without a sub.

My system sounds the best it ever has..........so I am happy.

I am curious do you use the Direcstream in two channel with Roomperfect enabled. Does the MX150 do and A to D the D to A and is it masking any of the Directstreams sound stage width, depth or instrument separation. or are you running analog through purestereo mode on th MX150?

I have an MX150 and curious what a Directstream might add over internal DAC and if the Roomperfect masks any perceived improvements.

Yes, I use the DirectStream with RoomPerfect enabled and that implementation for my room and sub is perfect. So much better that I no longer saw a need for my separate analog preamp, which did not have the sub engaged.

I run the DirectStream into the MX150's analog XLR inputs which uses the DirectStream DAC. The MX150 does not have a so called pure analog mode as everything ends up digital. This doesn't bother me because all I care about is the sound. I even run my turntable's preamp into the MX150 with RoomPerfect and love it. Running RoomPerfect is time consuming to get it right but its benefits for my room were enormous compared to straight pure analog. The settings I use are Balanced XLR input, Stereo, No Post Processing, Neutral Voicing and I have 3 Focus points and decided Focus 1 sounds the best for 2 channel and movies.

There is no masking of sound stage width or instrument separation with the MX150 and in fact I believe its all enhanced. Every firmware upgrade of the DirectStream is easily heard and Snowmass is phenomenal.

Ron,

Thank you for sharing the details. The onboard DAC in MX150 so far has been great. I too have had best sound with RP engaged. Before making jump to separate DAC i wanted reassurance there are improved impressions apparent.

The DirectStream DAC is a major sonic upgrade compared to the MX150 DAC and most other DACs for that matter, especially since Snowmass.

I have received my PS DAC with Bridge II and snowmass last weekend, and let it run non stop 24/7 for last few days, and plan to continue the burn-in for another week. But after few days, music coming from my laptop connected to the DAC via USB, and from DAC to Marantz 8805A via RCAs sound fantastic (at least much better than what I used to hear through the Marantz). I plan to switch the RCA to WW XLRs to connect the DAC to the 8805A, and see if there are significant difference. So far, I am very pleased with the PS DAC. I may add an Aurender N10 (or ACS10) to the system down the road

A big thumbs up for the DirectStream working out for you.

I was never a fan of connecting my music directly to a regular computer via USB because of the possibility of digital noise entering my system. The Aurender products should give you improved sonics, of cause for a price. Unfortunately lack of ROON compatibility was a deal killer for me. sonicTransporter i5 or i7 by Small Green Computer are another great option and support ROON.

Happy Listening!

Thanks Ron. I will check out the sonicTransporter. The Aurender N10 had great reviews from AA forum and professional mags, but is expensive as you point out.
This hobby is definitely an expensive one

Ron,

I drank the Kool aide and have a unit in shipment. I was hearing some high glare and hope for a better 3D sound stage over MX150. If no joy I will dump digital two channel into the lyngdorf TRAI for RP correction so one less A/D to D/A and use the PS Dir can Stream as my preamp to my Mc Mono blocks and XR290s.

Thanks

D

Congratulations, you will enjoy the DirectStream as it has ZERO glare and a great sound stage with Snowmass. Before Snowmass there could be some glare with poorer recordings.

What Music Player are you using or did you order the Bridge II?
