I worked as a fire sprinkler engineer while going thru Architecture Design at Texas Tech.
Always heard stories of people setting these off for fun.
Fact is that usually the stagnant water sitting in these pipes for years is really black and foul smelling.
Little does the perpetrator know what surprise awaits them when they set one of these sprinkler heads off and they are literally soaked with basically sewage water!!

Haha, I know this well - around 2000 I lived in the Georgia Tech 6th street apartments. A football player across the hall had been using the sprinkler head as a "clever" hook for his coat hanger & clothes. One day he ripped his clothes down wrong, and so much water came through that it flooded most of our wing and the downstairs apartments too (they got the worst of it).

Yes, the water was black and absolutely disgusting. I was home at the time, and blocked off the door well enough so we mostly fared OK, but the most unfortunate of my 3 roommates had had water come into his room from under the wall to the adjacent apartment. He was also a guy who liked to keep almost EVERYTHING on the floor - clothes, papers, mattress, etc.
