Default Mac-kit 30 Amplifier......what is it?

Was this an actual "built it yourself kit" that Mc sold?
Sorry for the dumb question. Just curious...

Jon.......Yes, the McIntosh kit was a build-it-yourself amplifier designated the MK30 mono tube amp. McIntosh only sold it for one year from July 1960 until June 1961. It was a kit of the MC30. It was the only kit amp McIntosh ever sold. The kit sold for $120.00.

Thanks Dan….
Wow! Wouldn't it be cool to find a NOS kit! I wonder how many Mc sold. It can't be a whole lot.

In addition to the info Dan has provided, here's a link to Berner's McIntosh site about the MacKit MC 30.

http://mcc.berners.ch/power-amplifiers/MK30.pdf

It seems unclear how many were produced but according to reliable sources, the number appears to be fewer than 200, or even less. The $78 discount of the kit version to the cost of a factory-finished unit apparently failed to lure enough buyers.

At one time Audio Classics boasted three MacKits in stock at one time - two had a regular type chrome nameplate that said, "MacKit" while the other was silkscreened in white.

It seems that the factory personnel wound up assembling unsold MacKits so the prospect of finding a NIB, unassembled MacKit MC 30 amplifier today seems pretty unlikely. We can still dream though.

Alas, no. A/C is in business after all.

But I don't believe a MacKit commands any more than an MC 30 in similar condition.

*Just noticed they've got one in stock right now.

Audio Classics - MACKIT-30

Here's your chance to snap up a Mc conversation piece!
