Agreed. It appears the S/N is the biggest difference. But it is a huge difference.

This is silly! There is absolutely no way you can tell the difference between those two chips with your ears.

With all my respects.
Have you listened all that models?
If there are no sound differences, why Esoteric buy a more expensive chip?

Features? New formats like mqa?

I have not heard the 4497 chip but I maintain that all the hand wringing over chip specs is silly and you are focusing on something you cannot hear. If you have a d02x, you are fine, it's world class, stop worrying about this stuff!

This thread has basically gone off topic. Maybe if you really want to explore the different chip specs, you can start a thread specifically about that. I'll stay out of it, I promise [emoji41]

This topic is about N01 streamer/Dac.
The new AKM implementation is one of the great news of this product and the comparation with others is a logical thinking.
So we aren't off topic.
If you aren't able to hear differences, go to the N05 and save your money.
What do you want to talk on this topic?
If you want to read this will be the best streamer on this moment, i'm sorry but i can't write that.
And don't care. I'm not going to start an AKM thread, but if i would do it i would like you write your opinion there.
All opinions are welcome to me on this hobbie.
Regards.

The K1 uses the 4497 chips. The k01x uses the 4495s, and the do2x uses the 4490.

Chip Numbers aside the K1 is the clear winner.

I wonder if all systems will benefit from the dac chips lower noise.

I guess lower noise means darker backgound, cleaner and clearer details which means also a maybe a touch less distortion resulting in a clearer and maybe leaner presentation over the older designs.
