Do you have focused listening sessions
Do you guys have a "Theme" or "Focused" listening sessions where you pick a genre and stick with it for the evening? I know some of us have a very specific preference of genres, some like classical, some blues, some jazz, some rock but I enjoy a very wide range of genres but the mood has to be right.
In the past I would typically mix things up a bit, switch between genres or even follow one of a dozen of the typical playlists I would develop. These days I find it much more relaxing and fulfilling to do a theme for the mood of the evening. A Jazz evening or a Blues evening, sometimes I break out into Classical and just lose myself in the beautiful cello or violin for hours on end. Sometimes but not often I find myself yearning for some Symphonic Metal if the mood is right... Other times it is Classic Rock, etc.. How about you? Last edited by PHC1; 11-28-2017 at 09:49 PM. |

I normally listen to multiple genre in any given listening session. Occasionally I will load up a soundtrack playlist if I want good music but my attention will not be focused on the music.

I need to figure out which adult beverages go with each genre. I think that is also important.
I think I have my food and beverage pairings down pretty good but music and beverages? Last edited by PHC1; 11-28-2017 at 07:45 PM. |

Do you have focused listening sessions
I tend to stay with a single genre in a listening session. Sometimes I'll move from acoustic to electronic, simple to complex, string quartet to orchestra, etc.
I prefer a good bourbon or single malt. Although an Old Fashioned really works for blues and jazz. Tom P.S. if I play Primus the dog will bite me.

Let's have some fun.
Pair a beverage with one of your favorite albums. I'll start. |

I tend to mix some genres, not others. Blues, rock, folk get jumbled in a listening session, but classical and jazz are typically dedicated single-genre listening. I like a good red wine, port or Cognac with classical, everything else works well with bourbon, single malt, or occasionally a good lager with blues or rock.

Genres define music, and I agree pair well with certain spirits, wines and beer but mostly on the weekends, if at all.
Classic Rock: Beer, Bourbon Blues: Bourbon Jazz: Vodka, Gin or Wine Classical: Wine |
