How does on/off switch on Accuphase amp work ??
Hi,
I've owned Accuphase amps before, not sure if this is still valid for current models. In the old models, there is no separate main switch and standby switch. As we all know, solid state amps sound best when it kept powered on for hours, many American amps that I have used, like ML436 and Moon W7M, Pass XA160.5 have main safety switch in the back and separate standby switch on front panel or via 12VDC trigger, this way amps will kept warm when in standby mode and need only an hour for extra warming up after turned on from stand by. In Accuphase amps of the past, there was only one main front switch which cuts off all power, hence it never reach full potential on normal daily use. In case of new class A amp like A65,A200, it will need even longer warm up time to reach max performance, and with extremely high power consumption (300watt at idle for each of A200) and heat, we will never leave it on 24/7. So the question is, do the current models have stand by mode or not ? or still have only two states between full ON and full OFF like before ? Toga Last edited by TOGA; 05-23-2012 at 12:50 PM. |

I own the smallest current model, the E250. As far as Imknow at least all integrateds have just an on/off switch. I cannot hear any difference after it being turned on for about 30 minutes. Even when it has been on for hours, no difference. Might be my ears (or yours being very good) or maybe there just is no difference. According to Accuphase, there shouldn't be.

they don't seem to be able to have 12VDC trigger on as well. May be Japanese amps designers encourage electricity saving by this way. Both Accuphase and Esoteric disc players also have only one main switch.
