In case my comment is misconstrued, I was commenting on the low end extension of the midrange itself, not the speaker as a whole.

Ian, what do you recommend for IB2i set-up--distance between speakers, distance from speakers to seating position, toe-in? Of course, these parameters will vary with the room but perhaps you've come to some conclusions from your extensive experience setting up and listening to these fine speakers.

Thanks,
Bill

Bill,

My room is about 22' x 18', a vaulted ceiling going from about 15' to 20' high. I've brought every speaker home from the IB2i down. With the IB2i's I positioned them about 8' apart and just a 1' off the wall. My listening position is right on the back wall, so I am getting some serious slam with even the small speakers. The Ib2i just takes it to a more exciting level... I haven't a single issue with a node of any sort in my room. I'm one of the lucky ones I guess, So setting up speakers is really not a chore at all. With all of our speakers it is generally recommended to toe in the speakers by crossing them at 1.5' behind your head. You've got your pair coming in and I understand your positioning may demand a little more attention, so feel free to mess around with what works for you... Toe in is just our recommendation not a requirement . If you were a little closer I would personally offer the time to come by and aid in your setup myself.

Ian, I appreciate the response. Your right, my room is a bit of a challenge but I think Jeff and I can get it pretty well dialed in. (BTW, you have a great dealer there.) Thanks for the tip on toe-in. Do you have a recommended minimum distance from the speakers for proper driver-integration?

And thanks a lot for sending up the loaners. Hearing them in my room with my gear made a huge difference!

Bill

With the crossover design and the resulting driver coherence in mind you can really use these in a nearfield set up, as in 2.5 feet from the monitors if you wanted... So its up to you how near or far, and how they will be interacting with your room. But your distance from the speakers to the listening position should determine your toe in.. Bass response can also further be altered by moving your speakers closer together or farther apart...

As for Jeff, he's alright....

you would be better off with 7 feet apart and 1.5 feet from sidewalls.Keep your PMC's away from the sidewall the most you can. They can be 6 feet apart,it wont matter as long as you keep them away from sidewalls.

Default ib2 ib1

I am considering the IB series loudspeakers. The IB1S is about 3k less expensive than the IB2S. I have heard the IB1 in the past and thought they were outstanding. Is the IB2 that much better to justify the extra $ ? One other thing why is the IB1 still in production?

thanks for your comments
