C500T or C2300 with MC75III
Hello all,
Has anyone compared running MC75 reissues with C500T compared to C2300? Just curious. I owned a C2300 and traded up to C500T. I found the C500T to be a nice upgrade when running my MC601's. The MC75's are more to my liking...just beautiful sight and sound! I've read the C2300 shares an excellent synergy with the MC75's and as much as I like the C500T, going back to a single box unit has it's appeal. Just wondering if anyone else has experience with these combo's. As always, Thanks in advance |

I compared a C500 with a C2300 using mono block MC275LE. The C500 was clearly superior in all respects using balanced interconnects.

Curious how the C2700 would compare.

When I had a pair of MC75s it was with a C2200. When I thought about 'upgrading' to the C2300, the salesman I dealt with at the time (Frank Gow, may he RIP) suggested that I should stick with the C2200 or go to the C500. As Frank knew my preferences and was foregoing a C2300 sale by doing so, I stuck with the C2200. Cannot imagine that you would be more pleased going back to a C2300 from a C500. The modern C75s are, to my ears, the best tube amps McIntosh has made.

I have not had the pleasure of owning a C500, but I am sure it is a beautiful piece. If you were to consider a one-box solution, I would recommend trying a c22 (new or older) to see if any synergetic qualities are brought to life. I only bring this up because of an article that I came across some time ago.

I owned the C 2300 and C 500T at the same time. They were driving a pair of McIntosh MC 2301’s.
The C 500 was much quieter and had an especially good MC phono section. C 500 distortion was lower and it was more resolving. The C 2300 had more of a classic tube like sound. I kept both! The C 500 has now been replaced with a C 1100 in the main system. The C 2300 drives an MC 275V and sounds glorious. Can’t go wrong with either.
