Both are great speakers, I owned the Summits for years before I went to BW. I know them very very well.

They do vocalists really good, and that beaming that they do makes for an isolated and forward vocalist.

That said, I uncovered a few problems. They were not engaging enough and I think you hit part of it when you said "I can hear the notes but not feel the notes" or something like that... that's exactly what I remembered.

ML also sound a little "dirtier" to me, probably because of that backwall reflection, it's never pinpoint in the rear stage (except vocalist, it makes it sound 3D with the delayed reflection).

Panels definitely have their own sound, they sound great with that one seat (but isn't that what really counts?) but terrible outside of it. It's nice to have a panel in a room where you cannot really treat because it has minimal side and ceiling interactions, all you have to worry about is the rear which is easy to mitigate with a single 242 GIK panel or a 244.

The Bass module is typically adjustable so you can play with room setting and loading.

All in all, I like ML.... but I prefer the 802D3.

Original Summits.

We as a group from Martinloganowners.com went to Kansas in 2007 and we dubbed the next Summit the Summit X. We also introduced to the designers and engineers the idea of spike adjustment hence you had the rake adjustment on the Summit X.

Yep, that was all us.

A little unknown story.

haha thats an awesome story, i definitely thank you for the way to adjust inclination. Before locking them in I was double checking a few times with just stacking up some books. I felt bad putting the Mac book down there . . . but it was the perfect height. Proof that McIntosh always makes things better LOL

And I'm the guy on the left! The gal in the middle is the wife of local Tampa audiophile Craig F, who still has ML Summits.
