Default Smaller pair or Larger single

Has anyone deployed both a large single and a smaller pair? Which did you prefer and why? When running pairs were they stereo or summed?

I think this would be very room dependent. In my old house in a smaller room my single sub was more than adequate. I could literally rattle the windows and doors. The place I'm in now is much larger and I could easily see myself using a stereo pair.

Are any of you using smaller pairs after using a larger sized single?
For example, have you traded a single F113 for a pair of F112's?

I have not done that but I do have a theory. If your speakers have smaller/multiple woofers, get subs that are on the smaller driver side. If your speakers have a large/single woofer, get a larger sub. To my ears, the multiple/smaller woofer speakers will have a tendency of having faster and well controlled bass but bass that will sound somewhat leaner by comparison to a large woofer which will sound a bit slower/plumper overall. Of course, ported vs sealed may change things a bit too. I think subs follow the same rule more or less, at least according to my theory.

I chose the dual F112s to compliment the smaller mid-bass driver of my then SF GM speakers. It worked out really well. My current Sasha also have dual woofers, a bit larger but the F112s still blend very well with the speakers. The Fathoms are fast, musical subs in general, so the difference may be a bit smaller than with other subs.

What about dual F110's with SF Auditors and GM speakers. Are the F112's a better fit? How small could ones room size be before it gets over loaded with the F112's?

I agree completely with your observations about woofers. Credible theory

I don't see why not, probably a perfect match with the F110s as well. My room is 14x17 where the GMs and dual F112s played together. Don't worry about the room overload. Just tuck them into the corners to load the room properly and adjust your settings from there to get a nice flat response across the board. The Fathoms are sealed and they are well behaved.
