I originally subscribed for three years, then canceled my subscription. I came to the conclusion that I wasn't listening to XM broadcasts often enough to make the price of subscribing worth my use. I still have my antenna on the side of the eave on my roof, so I can always subscribe again if I want. I am actually enjoying the terrestrial signals, both FM and FMHD, and best of all there is no fee for those signals.

As far as XM sounding as good as CD's, no not really. The signals sound very good, especially if you are tuning one that isn't compressed to hell and back, but CD's sound better.

Dan Thanks! I did not know that different XM channels use different types of compression. This helps me a lot!!

I had a 90-day free trial of XM with my new car. I had a few conversations with them about continuing my subscription, but could never balance service to price, especially when it came to subscribing both the car and my MR88, plus the reps came off light on product knowledge and long on salesmanship.

Joe,
I got the Burmester 931. Fabulous FM reception very close to CD quality. No XM though.

Thanks Thimios. It does look nice Dan. I still plan on getting an MR88. It just may take a little longer than I expected.

Joe.......I remember you saying you liked the MR88, and was thinking of purchasing one. I love mine. The FMHD sounds excellent, and using the digital output to the MCD1100 DAC's is even better. The McIntosh MR88 is a very sweet tuner.

This is a photo of my first MR88 that I sold. I regreted that sale almost instantly, and purchased another one, which is now in the studio system.

Mike.......Thank you. Here's the McIntosh MR85 I have installed in the living room system. Looking at the numbers on the display, the first number is the station preset, and the last number is the signal strength. The dot after the signal strength number indicates a stereo signal. The MR85 digital display is not quite as sexy as the MR88 analog dial, but still attractive and useful.

Dan,
I had the MR85 a few years back.. It looked nice but with all the hills around my home the reception was awful to say the least. I probably needed a roof antenna but I never went to the trouble to get one installed. I ended up selling it.

---Hi Joe,

I read this thread (older) right from the beginning. And I thought that in your first original post you were on the right track with Magnum Dynalab.

You, I, and a lot of other people who are knowledgeable on the very best Radio Tuners out there, know that Magnum Dynalab ranks very highly.

Of course there are others too from different manufacturers, like McIntosh for example.
But for me when we talk TUNERS, Magnum Dynalab is big on the conversation.

Joe, I am not posting any links or pictures here to respect the wish of the 'Seigneurs'.
But you can search easily on your own, and read why Magnum chose XM radio over HD radio. Look at their latest offerings; Internet radio. They have several models (Analog, Digital, and with all world provenance radio stations).

Magnum Dynalab is a r.a.d.i.o. specialist. They know 'bout TUNING & all that jazz ...
And they use the very best quality parts in their tuners.

And that, is my
