I was surprised what a big difference to sonic footprint the preamp makes. In my system a VAC tube preamp is more different from a CJ tube preamp than is a VAC tube amp versus a CJ350 in my system.

But, you are using a phono preamp, correct? Would you think it would make as much difference with a line stage only system?

This with cd player outputs with same cable one into CJ preamp and other to VAC preamp, switching back and forth amp connection to each pre. No phono preamp in the comparison.

Very interesting...I'll bet that CJ350 sounds mighty sweet with either preamp I would love one of those babies someday.

The CJ 350 amazes me. Hard to imagine a better amp for less than $25,000 with that type of musical power (600 watts into 4 ohms in one chassis). It sounds really good/best with tube preamp. It will help float the sound almost like a tube amp but with much better punch.

That's sounds line a winner too - a click to the warm side, true dual mono and plenty of power into 4 ohms.

My back is not too crazy about the "heavy side," though. 110lbs? Good lord. Makes CJ seem like an Ipod.

I have a 115 lb VAC amp and I can barely lift it 5 inches off the floor.
