David,
Thank you for your update/review of the S5. Glad to hear how much you are enjoying them. I think a S5 and Q3 audition are definitely in my future. After reading so much about them, I definitely need to hear them for myself. Best, Ken |

Thanks Matt. The reason we're waiting until 250-500hrs is because the sound will change in that time and on my tiled floor, it's easier to move the speakers to their final position on the carpet off-cuts than with the Ultra 5's installed

Hi Rlacoste, yes I was told that as well, though in not so strict terms. There is two good reasons why Magico are sending out that advice to Dealers and customers; firstly Magico, having invested millions of dollars into the S series and understandably don't want customers installing potentially inferior feet in place of the quite acceptable factory feet, and secondly they don't want to suggest that anyone produces better feet than them. If you were Porsche, would you admit that a Porsche tuning house like Ruff Automobile Technik produces better turbo engines than you?

Cheers mate. The S5 and Q3 are obviously at different price points, but putting that aside for a moment, each speaker will appeal to different sensibilities and tastes. It should become fairly obviously in the first audition which you prefer. The good part? Both are great and you can't really go wrong either way |

100 hours playtime in two months.
C'mon you can do more listening than that . I would find it hard to not listen at any possible moment with new toys, even in the background. At this rate it will take you 12 months just to get them run in. Why not put the S5 spikes on first, then the Stillpoints later? Enjoy |

Hi David,
Cabinet resonance also gives sound to environment, here stillpoints really don't help. They will only decouple the speakers from the floor, which can have good results or less good. (I have tried the FE Cerapucs under my V3's, probably not in the same league as still points, but I have removed them quickly for the original spikes) Cabinet resonance is swinging movement from the speaker walls (basically acting like a driver), I am sure that S5 will not be bad in this discpline, Q3 will be better as construction is more enhanced. You made a good point about installing the factory feet, though i'd rather not muck around with the speakers too much & would rather keep the factory feet unopened/mint in case I move them on one day. I listened to music all day yesterday, and am going to take your advice and listen to music or watch dvd's run through my speakers at every opportunity to get those hours clicking over! |

Thanks for this information which makes sense. I have found even in energetic music passages, I detect very little cabinet resonance. In this discipline as you said the S5's perform well. Actually the Stillpoints do more than decouple the speaker from the floor; they are a bi-directional isolation device. They take resonance from the cabinet and transfer it to horizontal motion which is then converted to heat. What the Stillpoints will do is neutralize much of this vibration through through their proprietary technology, or what they call their "technology pockets". I can tell you for sure the Stillpoints Ultra 5's with Ultra bases will be much much better than the Cerapucs. When I first installed my Vitus, I placed it on a set of 4 Cerabase Classic feet on the floor, however when we installed the Ultra 5's and Ultra LPI, the improvement as I mentioned was jaw dropping Cheers, Last edited by Bodhisattva; 12-01-2013 at 04:47 AM. |
