I just got my first headphone amp today; a battery-powered Grado RA1 from a buddy for $210. Thing's brand new.
Going to check it out tonight with the SR60i's.

The $1,700 PS1000 I own that has already been repaired by Grado twice failed again, today. The total use since the last warranty repair was a few hours. I contacted Grado by e-mail and am waiting for their instructions. My other headphones are all fine. I already mentioned that I haven't found dealing with their warranty services very appealing. This will be the third time I will have the pleasure in as many months, and for a unit they call their "flagship".

It's unreasonable for Grado to keep requiring you to pay to ship them back for repair repeatedly because they can't fix them properly the first time.

Thank you, Puma Cat. This has gone too far. The unit should be replaced. I personally don't think additional efforts to repair this unit are reasonable. I contacted the Grado authorized dealer from whom I purchased it. I should have just returned it to them but, stupidly, went the warranty route instead. Within minutes, the dealer replied to my request for help. They said they were meeting their local Grado rep tomorrow and would bring this matter to the rep's attention. The dealer said they're "on it" and will get back to me. We'll see what happens. I'm also preparing a letter to John Grado, though I doubt he will ever see it if sent. The lesson here - if you can return a defective unit to the seller, do it. Don't fall into the warranty repair game. It's a trap.

I have been informed (not by Grado but by someone I know who was visiting them last week) that Grado has (finally!) replaced both drivers. With some luck. following typical Grado practice, the PS1000 will just appear at my door, no signature, no tracking, and no notice, later this week. I hope the third time will be the charm, as it is said.
