I really like that guitar picture. I chose to add a bit of color to my room since I spent so much time there and it is my dedicated 2-channel room. They not only look good they work really well too.

I have a total of 9 panels so you have way up on me.

Ivan, those panels really helped at keeping sound from getting caught in the those extra 15 inches and in eliminating reflections from the ceiling. I think those went in about a year ago.

Default Sound conditioning

I was out at Jim's home last night and got to see and listen to the effect that the panels have made in his listening room. It really was much better than when I had heard it about a year ago. The art work on the panels was very well done and it really added alot to his room from a visual stand point. Cheers, Frank

Frank.......I'll bet Jim enjoyed showing off the room in its new condition. Acoustic room treatment done right can make the difference between an audio system sounding good and an audio system sounding excellent.

Did you get the opportunity to audition the new MCD1100? What is your impression of the MBL 111F speakers?

Default Mbl

I really like the looks of the MBL's. Sound wise they have a very clear, clean sound and are very easy to listen to and enjoy. The music selections that Jim picked out really made them shine. Sort of a mini Ivan demo!

As for the MCD1100. I don't really see any reason to drop my MCD 500 in favor of this unit. Does it sound good, sure it's a Mac, but to these old ears the sounds has gotten so good I really can't hear any gain.
You may hear a difference because you feel you must after spending all that extra cash. Spending more cash just to have the latest new toy really doesn't get you the same amount of improvement in sound. I think the cash could be spent in other areas that would really make a difference. Not having money to burn I must improve wisely. This is just MHO! Cheers, Frank

Frank.......I hear a difference with the MCD1100 because the player and new DACs deliver a cleaner sound across the spectrum, with a wider and deeper sound stage, and the deepest silence from which the faintest of micro details can be heard. There is a lot to like about the new MCD1100, and it's performance is off the charts.

I must say, though, without having the MCD1100 and the MCD500 together for a direct A/B comparison, the MCD500's performance is impressive enough to make one wonder if the difference is worth it. Ultimately, it is up to each individual to make that decision. As for where cash can be best spent in a high-end audio system, that's easy. Everywhere.

I was very surprised at how these panels cleaned up the some of the bass issues in my room. All I can think is that my controlling some of the reflections in the mid and upper ranges the bass is more pronounced. All in all a relatively inexpensive path to better sound.

I just added three more GIK 242 panels to my room. My previous six were all installed for first reflections, in front of me. The new three are installed behind my listening position. I continue to believe that room treatments are some of the best values in audio. More focus, more separation. A++ audio upgrade.
