Clearaudio Talismann V2 MC (load on Mcintosh C500/T)
Hi guys, I just want to know what MC load I have to use for Talismann V2 Gold cartridge on my Mcintosh C500/T. I used to have a Clearaudio Balance plus phono and it was self adjusting button when you want to select MM or MC load. Now on the Mcintosh C500 I have a lots of option and I do not know what to select.

dantes0929.......The general rule for a starting point for moving coil cartridge loading is 10 times the cartridge impedance. This is not a hard and fast rule, so play with up or down from that point. Since the Talismann V2 Gold has a cartridge impedance of 30 ohms, a good starting point for loading would be 300 ohms.
Clearaudio Talismann V2 Gold Technical Data: •Cartridge weight: 10.8 gram •Stylus shape: Micro HD •Cantilever: Boron •Coil assembly: Fully symmetrical around pivot point •Coil material: 24-Karat gold •Compliance: 15/15 µ/mN •Recommended tracking force: 2.8 g •Crosstalk: > 30 dB •Channel difference: < 0.5 dB •Output voltage: 0.7 mV at 5 cm/s •Cartridge Impedance: 30 Ohms •Cartridge body: Hand polished ebony wood with metal alloy internal resonance damping

The Talisman v2 Gold likes a little more loading. I use 380 ohm and have even pushed it to 475 ohm. Furthermore, it sounds a bit better when the VTA is slightly tail down. With the loading and VTA you get a smooth top end, nice weight and definition in the midrange, great bass and great dynamics. I also set my gain to about 53 db.
However, this is something where you can (and should) try different settings and judge for yourself.
