Don't do it

BFA style bananas are superior to spades for contact area and staying in place on speakers. Flatten out a high-end BFA banana and measure its contact surface. It's over 1-1/2 times that of the best spade connector.

Spades come loose over time due to metal compression and vibration. BFA bananas don't.

To properly utilize the benefits of BFAs, I'm assuming the gear has binding posts that actually accept the full length of a 1" BFA banana plug insert.

The banana plugs with the expanding spring metal around the center of the pin are so-so. I never use that type.

With a spade you are assured of contacting all the surface area

Never had a spade come loose so I really don't know where all that talk comes from...

I agree with you, but the BFA style are better and have the most contact area of bananas.

The binding posts on my Crown power amp have a female cylinder that is 1" deep so the entire pin of my BFA bananas are in contact with the binding post. MY PSB Synchrony One B speakers also have a binding post whose female cylinder is 1" deep. The binding posts on Jolida JD1701A integrated are 1.1" deep -- again, the entire 1" pin of the BFA is in contact with the binding post.

My Maggies don't accept binding posts or spades.

I took one of my BFA binding posts and measured the actual contact area. It's 0.6 square inches.

Maybe you are confusing BFA bananas with another type of banana?

A lot of so-called audiophile gear/speakers have short binding posts and in this case a spade is preferred. In my case, I simply don't buy this sort of gear. If the company is putting shite binding posts on the gear, where else are they cutting corners?

Unless you use Speakon connectors, Crown uses awful binding posts. IMO, unless you're using WBT or something similar, I'd rather use Speakon anyway...

Where does bare wire (or tinned with your preferred solder) fit in to this discussion?
I've had cheap banana connectors and bare wire was better when I bypassed the connectors.
