WBT Speaker Binding Posts

I received today an item that is in preparation for the next phase of my system wiring upgrades (Speaker Cables). When the time comes I order my speaker cables,
I plan to order with Banana plug terminations. I believe they are the best and most reliable method of connection. (YMMV ).

I ordered from a UK seller a set of 4 WBT-0705-cu Binding posts; they are the second from the company's top product, which is the WBT-0705 ag which have silver
signal elements. The WBT-0705 cu uses gold-pated copper signal elements.

These will replace the standard 80's vintage terminals that JBL provided on my L220A's, which do not accept banana plugs. My B460 subwoofer is already fitted with
comparable quality WBT Binding posts, installed by the previous owner.

The new WBT terminals are obviously first-rate, and I look forward to installing them. Here a few photos of these little puppies, which actually aren't so little:

Ivan had advised he doesn't carry these....I would think if he did he would have no trouble selling them as these are really top-notch.

Pete.......Always happy to help out. These WBT in-line terminals are beautiful. That's a big step up from the older JBL terminals and will definitely improve the quality of your terminations.

Most nanners are brass based too. It's much easier and cheaper to find a copper based spade.

My speakers have the universal WBT connectors. I use spades on my speaker cable. They tighten better than bananas and make better contact. On my amp I have to use bananas, but I have the WBT locking bananas to use for that.

Dan....yes, I have installed the new WBT Binding posts. They are without a doubt far superior to the vintage JBL twist-lock variety:

I did have to enlarge the holes to install the new spades.




The installation went pretty smoothly....

The binding posts are keyed to prevent twisting, but it was not practical for me to cut a keyway in the material that is used on the recessed plate on the back of my L220's. A "puzzle plate" is also included for the same purpose, but that requires a center to center distance of 30mm, and the existing holes are more like 35mm apart. I had to settle for carefully conterboring the outer surface to achieve a flat mounting condition, which worked out fine with no apparent twisting issues.

I installed some radio shack gold plated 6mm spades as an interim measure until I get my new cables. It has been my intention to go to banana plugs...however three members have chimed in here recommending spades over bananas. I'd welcome some more opinions on this before I make a final decision.

Take a look at the last photo (above) and bear in mind that there could be a clearance issue if the Wireworld spades installed on the cable if the spade lug assembly is too long. The WBT binding posts accept 6 or 8mm spade but have flats machined for 6mm spades in the vertical orientation.

I think Ivan prefers bananas, perhaps he could chime in here and offer some insights?

Pete.......Thanks for the photos. The WBT Next-Gen terminals look much better than those old twist lock plastic ones that JBL used. Nice installation.

Here's a photo of Wireworld's Oasis speaker cable terminated with their silver plated solid copper spade terminals.

These are the WBT spades I terminate my Naim NACA5 cable with. They accept wire terminated with crimp sleeves. You have to get the proper ones for the gauge of wire you use (in my case 12 AWG, the middle one pictured).

Pete.......Here's a photo of the WBT terminals on my SF Amati Anniversario speakers with the WBT solid silver angled locking banana connectors I had installed on the Kimber 8TC speaker cable. I sold the 8TC cable with those connectors to Jerome, and now use Wireworld Silver Eclipse speaker cables with silver plated solid copper spade terminals on the Anniversario's.
