No idea. But having speaker drivers in spec isn't the worst idea I ever heard of.

Thanks guys. VERY helpful. I am still hunting, but getting cloer. I would also consider the XO upgrade from Germany by Werner Jagusch (spelling?) as many suggested on different forums. My only challenge is convincing my wife. She is actively involved in the hobby, loves listening to music together, shopping for vinyl, speakers, and enjoyes the glow of tubes. However, she does not like the rectangulat old cabinets on any Altecs. She set her mind on teh O/96, but at 5-6x the price I am not so crazy about the idea. Even used it is about 4 times. So the discussion i songoing. I hope to be able to audition a pair of Flamencoes soon...
Enjoy the Holidays!

Ok so I just got home with a pair of 848A...
Awesome seller, we had a 3 hour listening /packing into my car session and miraculously I was able to bring them in with some trickery by myself..

Listening to them with Almarro 318b and a simple Somy Playstation CD and WE 14 GA spkr wire. Even with these it sounds great. Cant wait to test with my Shindo gear and ultimately raise them.
ALready exchnaged emails with Werner about the XO. I will upgrade but want to live with them as they are for a bit first...

His price on them is very good, and they the workmanship is outstanding. You could make your own N-800-F quite easily but depending on your parts selection they could easily run more than Werner's. You need a 4 and 10uF cap, two 3.5mH inductors, and either 2-resistors or an L-Pad to attenuate the HF. After messing too much with R I would recommend getting an 16 ohm L-Pad from Parts Express. You might be satisfied with the stock crossovers too.

I wish i could do stuff like this by myself - not handy at all.
It looks like his XO is an external one - that makes it a bit challenging as space is at premium in the LR (aka music room)...
they sound pretty darn good even with the old caps/XO and only raised by about 2 inces (two hockey puck heights)

I assume the 848A are Flamencos then. Congrats. I have no regrets on my 846A's, especially once I did Werner's XO. Hey Josh, we aren't all as handy as you. (-:
I believe you can mount Werner's XO inside the cabinet, but I have mine outside the cabinets. Regarding the RE-mag of drivers.... Bill is the only game in town?
Yikes- wish I lived closer to him.

I've scoured all the sources in NA. They all either closed shop, died, or sold off the equip. I think he is about it that will do it as part of a service. And he is only up for a couple years. Good luck!
