Default Cayenne S eHybrid Platinum Edition

A couple of weeks ago my '14 Cayenne was totaled when the third car through on a red light hit me while I was making a left turn at a light. Thankfully there were no injuries. At first the adjuster indicated the Porsche was repairable but when the repair shop came back a week later with their estimate the vehicle was declared a total loss.

I had planned on keeping the Cayenne for about one more year until the updated Cayenne is scheduled for release. Some were just too big (Mercedes GLS and Infiniti QX-80) or bit small (Macan, and Audi SQ-5, Jaguar f-Pace S) or boring Audi Q7. I was close to pulling the trigger on a new Land Rover Discovery First Edition that would have been available at the end of the month but after driving it I decided to pass. It is a very different vehicle than my previous LR4 V8. What they call improvements I considered as trade offs. It is a nice vehicle and they will sell every one they make, but it is not for me. Maybe the upcoming Defender.

A Porsche dealer suggested that a two year lease on a Cayenne S eHybrid could bridge me to the new model. He put together a lease (first time I have leased in many years) that was too good to pass on so I decided to give it a test drive. The test drive went nicely so I decided to pull the trigger.

I picked the car up Monday evening and so far I couldn't be more pleased. The car only gets about 15-20 miles on electric power but you don't have to wait to get home to recharge the battery, the engine will recharge the battery as you are driving. Today I made a 80 mile round trip. The first ~20 miles all electric then it switched over to where the engine powered the car and recharged the battery. When I started the 40 miles back home the battery was again partially charged by the engine so it again defaulted to the battery before switching back to gas. BY the time I arrived home it was already 60% charged again. I computer indicates I averaged over 32mpg in a mixture a city and highway driving.

Combined horsepower of the gas and electric motors in 416. That power is needed to offset the additional weight of the battery.

The color is Rhodium Silver with a black interior. I'll get a picture when it is cleaned up.

Sorry about the accident but glad that you are well. A car is replaceable so you are lucky.
Would you mind sharing more details about your lease?

Well I have owned this Cayenne for 15 weeks now and I couldn't be happier. I have put over 5000 miles on it and have averaged 26.8 mpg so far. I have had a high of 37.8 and a low of 21. The low came on a 1000 mile trip which was mostly highway where I could only charge the battery when driving and that drops the mileage by about 20%.

It took a bit of time to get used to the way the vehicle pulls away from a light when deciding to go electric or gas. Not always as smooth my last Cayenne. There is plenty of power on hand "for me" with 415hp combined gas and electric motors. You need that to make up for the extra weight the battery adds.
