What is your favorite Headphones?

I've got AKG K271 MkIIs. I use them daily at work to cut down the noise of the servers and equipment that I work with. They are closed back and have good isolation. They are also quite comfortable, which is very important to me.

I'm a headphone novice, but before I settled on the AKGs I had also purchased Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7 noise cancelling headphones and Sony MDR-V6s. Both were very nice, but did not fit me well and hurt after about an hour of wearing, so they were returned.

The AKGs do not have the same quantity of deep bass that the ATs or Sonys had, but I don't really miss it.

My favorite headphones are the Sennheiser HD600. They are not a true closed design, so they would not work for you to reduce outside noise. In the Studio I use the Sennheiser HD280 Pro. It is a closed back headphone, is comfortable to wear for extended periods of time, and does a good job at isolating external noise. I have six sets of HD280's, and everyone that has used them said they like them. They don't bleed back through microphones, which is a primary concern when recording.

HD280pro seems to be popular. Would you say there the best closed headphones for the money?

Dj.......I can't make the claim that the Sennheiser HD280 Pro is the best headphone in the $100 price range, but they are excellent performers with good isolation, comfortable to wear for long periods of time, and they are durable. In my studio, where headphones can get abused, durability is important. The HD280 Pro's have held up very well with no broken parts, and no pulled out cords. I like them.

As far as favorites go, it's a tossup between my Senn HD-650 and Grado RS-1. There are things like Jazz and acoustic music that the 650s do so well but I think the Grados are the better all-around cans.

AKG 701's here. The Grado's were a bit on the dark side for me, but the AKG 701's do demand good input. Being used to the 5 foot ribbon tweeters in my MGIIIa's, the AKG's do a very nice job of duplicating their presentation for me. Still prefer the live sound of the Maggies, but the cans are nice when I don't want to disturb others.

I like the comfort of Sennheiser and the sound of Grado's. If I put on headphones to listen for something specific, it's the Grado's. For falling asleep I like the Sennheisers.

I just picked up a pair of Etymotic HF2 for my iPhone. Very nice. Not too far off from my Ety ER-4P. I know, I know...it's not very hi-fi but I love my iPhone so why not load it up with music? I'm at least not using the stock buds.
