I'm interested in another direction than just huge power for my Salon2's. I have them in my home office and powered by ML 383 (100 watts) and they sound great but I'm thinking of lower output with tubes for a change of pace. Has anyone tried them with Macintosh 275 or PrimaLuna for example? Use is during work and later at night. A higher powered SS amp as Amp #2 will be another thread later ...

I had been using them with a Mc275 and they sounded great but I do enjoy the benefit of the additional headroom with the 1.2kw.

Thanks Tim - Did you get rid of the 275? I see it's not in your signature. What didn't work for you at low levels (If anything) I can't imagine I need the headroom of 1,125 watts (1.2kW) for late night listening :-)

Hi.
I still have the Mc275 and am doing mental gymnastics about what my next step will be. There is a marketplace for members of the forum and I had it listed there recently, but am still undecided as to what I want to do. I have a D100 and a set of F208's that I may set up as a second system. The Mc275 is amazing and sounded great at lower volume levels but I frequently I like to listen a "little louder". I used gold lion tubes and it really does sound sublime. For late night listening, it would be a fantastic amp.

My thinking is to go with a plan A : get a sweet sounding lower power tube amp (McIntosh 275) for late night listening and a beefy SS (McIntosh 452) to rock out ... Or Plan B just go for a low power tube and keep the integrated amp I have for now. Audio Research 75 is also interesting, I listened to that heavily while speaker hunting but more $$

Look through the value added pages and get an idea of what has sold on AA lately. Recently a pair of Mc2301's sold. That would've fit the bill nicely.

I've tried a number of amps with my Salon2s, including a pair of MC275s. a MC452 and a Hegel H30....Nothing comes close to the match with a Pass Labs 350.8. BTW...for me the 275s were way underpowered for the Salons.

Thanks Suburban. I think you're the first person I've read who didn't like the 452's with the Salon2's. What did the Pass 350 do for you that the McIntosh did not? Not sure if there is a Pass dealer here in MA

For night time listening, I was he would keep it under 10 watts.

Tim - I doubt my wife would let me get above 10 watts after 10PM :-) It's why I'm thinkin adifferent late night experience. I plan on using my Benchmark DAC and my Phono which has a volume knob to directly drive the amp. I'm assuming since I don't yet have the requisite 10 posts I can't see the "Value added pages" or am I searching the wrong thing
