Rim Joist Insulation

I had consumers energy over for a walk thru and they told me to insulate my rim joists in the basement . I have been studying this for a while and Roxul stone wool looks like the best way to do the insulation has anyone used it? the spray foam just seems too messy and fiberglass is a no !

FWIW I think it depends on your goals. The sprayed in foam, while requiring a trained installer to do well, will provide significantly better air infiltration resistance than anything else as well as equal if not better R value. If you arent worried about that 'sealing' benefit, i would simply use Fiberglass battes.

Just had mine done with foam
The only way to seal up everything.
Had fiberglass in there and it wasn't doing the job......

I am a DIYer i think i will seal it with foam then use the Roxul afterward

I am planning to have everything sprayed when I will gut the whole basement. I want a contractor to do the job. For the same R value cost was not significantly higher but would save up on wall thickness.
