My favorite from all times is Basil Poledouris' "Conan The Barbarian". I am actually a soundtrack collector and own hundreds of titles, mostly from 60's and 70's films. When it comes to contemporary films, though, I believe Howard Shore's "Lord Of The Rings" saga, in all its Wagnerian glory, has yet to be surpassed.
I particularly adore Morricone, whom I went to see a few years ago when he appeared at Radio City Music Hall. Talk about a religious experience! By the time the orchestra and the soprano were in full-blown mode during "The Ecstasy Of Gold", I could not hold back the tears... Other favorite composers of rare soundtracks (mostly from arcane and rare European film genres like giallos, spaghetti westerns, poliziottischi, etc) are Bruno Nicolai, Luis Bacalov, Riz Ortolani, Piero Umiliani, Piero Piccioni, Stelvio Cipriani, etc. By the way, where can one find the SACD version of "The Mission"?

The Mission SACD seems to be "all gone", and, unfortunately, it is much better than the regular CD. I couldn't find it anywhere when I Googled it.
I guess I'd better hang onto my copy - may become valuable! Julian

I have never heard more powerful bass from any speaker since. I have a copy of the Titanic SACD that I have tried with many speakers. None have yet measure up.
