Wilson and Stillpoints

StillPoints and Wilson's - a match made in audio heaven. For the Wilson's the Ultra 5's are worth the extra cost. The SS work great under most components. Not so much for many turntables however. But Wilson's? A big yes!

I also have a set of Ultras under my Maggie 20.7s, mounted to Sound Anchors. So, the StillPoints are not just for Wilson's.

If you are lucky enough to have a Thor sub-woofer or other massive sub (Fathom) try a set of StillPoints under it. Very surprising what it can do.

Caelin, thanks. Two speakers and three Fathoms are 20 footers. At $700 per footer for Ultra 5's, I am starting to get chest pains! Even $5,600 for footers for two speakers worth $8,000 has me double-clutching a bit. Of course, my sig shows I have a distinct lack of audio impulse control.

If you take the total cost of the speakers and then add the cost of the footers, you could consider the total package as a different speaker that simply costs more than the one you have now. The only thing then is to decide is the new speaker and it's higher cost worth the performance increase. What I decided and apparently many others is that it was worth the extra cost. The nice thing is that you get a new speaker without having the hassle of selling the old one and incurring the loss of value.

As with most tweaks, you would want to try it before committing to buying especially at the price. Although the level of performance increase goes beyond what I would consider a tweak.

I also have Ultra5s under the Sound Anchors adding an additional diode on the back so I can use 4 rather than 3 per speaker... the extra U5 easily translates to a noticeable step up over running with three under the 20.7s.

I'm currently up to 28 x U5s in the system which has been my audio project for this year (last year was the year of Shunyata) including 4 x U5s under each Cyclops, the amp, the pre, the dac plus another 2 under the Mac Air. Yes, they are a tad addictive.
