Spendor A9's
Hi
I am a long term fan of Spendor speakers. I currently own a pair of their A9 floorstanding speakers. I have previously owned S100's and a pair of the very rare SP 9/1's. Does anyone else own Spendor A9's? They look like fairly conventional towers but they are very sophiiticated superb sounding high end products in my view. Even my wife likes them (cosmetically they are less intrusive than the SP9/1's ) If you own them, what do you drive them with? Quentin |

Hi again
Here are two quick pictures, one with grille oin and one off Driven by this: So far as comparisons with the S100 are concerned, its pretty difficult when so much else has changed, and the A series use newer driver technology. I think the high end is significantly better with the A9s which use a newer tweeter and generally they have clearly been voiced for a more modern sound, but still typically Spendor, meaning neutral and musical. Bass is faster. The reviews of the A9's on the web tell their own convincing story. I'm impressed and enjoying them hugely. Last edited by qdfb; 01-01-2012 at 05:12 PM. |

I assume you mean from the SP 9/1's to A9's? Yes, I think Spendor have done their homework. The 9/1 were Spendor's unique 1994 25 year anniversay monolith's with incredibly expensive enclosures. Here is a shot of the SP 9/1's (I sold them on Ebay to an enthusiast) Yes they look great but they do slightly dominate a living room. Totally different design. The 9/1's were great but that big 12" bass driver was a tad slow. They used exactly the same drivers as the SP100 (the successor to the S100). Quentin Last edited by qdfb; 01-01-2012 at 05:46 PM. |
