Default I know this is the wrong way to buy speakers, but ...

I can't listen to everything I am considering. I have two brands/models in mind (and will take more suggestions). The Sonus Faber Evolutions and the TAD CR-1's. I can't run full size towers because of room considerations. I might be able to hear the CR-1's in the near future. I have been very good lately , meaning, I have been selling more equipment than I've been buying in anticipation of a new speaker purchase. I know there is quite a price spread between the two and I seek advice from those who have heard both or either one. A little help please .

Thanks!

I've heard the CR-1s numerous times at shows and have always found them to excel. They belong in the currently fashionable "transparent" school of reproduction, which appeals to many reviewers but not to all listeners (see the various opinions on Magico).

Speaker choice is so subjective, so personal, I think you really have to listen for yourself, with your choice of electronics if possible.

I have not heard the Evos but believe Stereophile just reviewed them.

Thanks. I just got the magazine today and will read the reviews shortly. I know it's crazy, but I'm jonesing to pull the trigger. Based on intuition, reviews and friends, previous purchases have been to my satisfaction. I should be able to hear the CR-1's shortly and that should solidify my thoughts.

Assume you have read Art Dudley's review of the Evolution in Stereophile.

The Evos are a fine speaker. The TAD CR-1's are exceptional stand-mounts.

The TAD is quite a bit more expensive than the Evo.

TAD CR-1s are more than 2X I believe at $37K vs. $15K for the SF Evos I believe.
