Default Speaker help

I'm a rookie at posting so please be patient. I picked up a MC 452 demo for a killer deal and will be departing with my beloved MC 302. The problem I have is I have B & W CM10's S2, which was fine with the 302, but I don't think so with the 452. What speakers would you recommend with the 452? I have a 8 -10k budget. Thanks in advance for your time.

Love this site, look at it every night, I just don't post much.

Do you want a floor standing speaker again?

If so, I'd highly recommend a pair of Aerial Acoustic 7T speakers.

There is now answer to this question.

It is like asking “what sort of girl should I marry?”

...well that depends. Do you like blondes, brunettes, tall, short, skinny, round, outgoing, shy, overbearing, passive...the list is endless.

Every speaker has a different presentation.

Go and listen to speakers until you find the “character” and sound YOU like.

Your 452 is like a jack of all trades, you’re going to be pretty hard pressed to find a speaker (esp in that budget) that it can’t drive well).

Questions to ask (in order) to narrow down your speakers to demo:

-type of music you listen to (genre and media)

-room size & any physical constraints (dimensions, ability to set away from wall, wall treatments, floor type, wife factor)

-any particular traits you notice (prefer a metal tweeter, like a lot of bass, want a warmer acoustic tone)

-budget (don’t forget to factor in a decent pair of cables if you don’t already have)

Without any additional info, I can say that at under $10k, I’d be looking at a deal on a pair of Sonus Faber Olympic III’s or a pair of Wilson W/P’s

If you like the B&W sound, you could possibly find some 800 d2 speakers used in your price range.

Pre owned can really help stretch your budget.

There’s some 802 d2s in the marketplace right now I believe if you have a smaller room.

Ravens 52,
On a more serious note you really just have to get out and listen to a bunch of speakers at different dealers and friends over an extended period of time.

You'll need to create a demo playlist of music you won't mind listing to over, and over, and over again. Your price range is full of great speakers so the hardest part will be narrowing down your choices.

For now, I'm sure your existing speakers will work great with your new MC 452.

Tom
