I would loosen the ground clamp the satellite wire is attached to (not the main ground clamp) and tighten it. Do this a couple of times to work free any potential corrosion. I bet this will correct the issue...... (If you don't feel comfortable with this then wait for the electrician but it is really easy to try) Keep us posted on what you find out!

Yep, I did exactly that. In fact, the clamp was a little loose at first, and thought the was my prob. It didn't help. . But something there seems to be amiss.

Dom...thank you for sharing your new marantz 7701. It is really a great preamp for the price.

Are you getting the hum when listening to 2channel only?

No hum on 2 channel, but the AV7701 isn't in the mix for 2 channel in my setup (so no DierecTV DVR). For 2 channel I'm using a C2300 preamp.

And the only time you get the hum is when av7701 is passing thru the c2300 correct? If this is the case, you and me are the same page.

Even my dealer had the same problem with pass thru set up. Part of the issue is the marantz not equip with grounded IEC and by connecting it with another pre amp that is grounded, will cause the hum.

Also, i brought this issue with Charles at mcintosh, he said in my case could be the dac of both pre amps are causing the hum. Hum tends to be louder when using xlr. My fix was grounding both pre pro with a piece of copper wire attached to the each chassis. Try hybrid cable, xlr from av7701 and RCA to c2300. i use it and it helps.

Actually, it doesn't seem to be related to pass thru or any of the McIntosh or Marantz gear. Best I can tell the issue is with the satellite system coax. The ground shield of satellite coax seems to be floating. When the coax is connected to the DVR it looks like it causes the HDMI ground to be at the same potential as the coax ground, and when the HDMI is plugged into the Marantz the dreaded hum starts.

The good news is that the hum is gone now that I grounded the coax to a ground on the same AC circuit as the rest of the gear. Though, I still need to figure out why the coax isn't grounded properly.
