Affordable, triable, LONG interconnects

I''ve got the source rack against the wall near my seat, amp between the speakers, and the interconnects running at the wall-floor junction for neatness. This means a 25 ft (7.5 m) run of balanced interconnect. I'm using Mogami 2549 and Neutrik XLR's now, assembled by a Pro Audio shop.


This setup seems fine, and I have no specific complaints -- nor has anyone who's heard the system. But aren't we all looking for never-ending improvement?


An audiophile cable might be something to try. Are there any recommendable manufacturers who give trial purchases on cables that long? I'd like to try to keep this under $1500/pair -- the low end for cables aimed at audiophiles, but still more than 10x what my current cables cost.

I have a similar long run I’ll need to make in the next year or so. My list includes Triode Wire Labs, which has impressed me when I’ve heard them on a value/$$ ratio.

So, for a long run you want a low resistance per meter, low capacitance per meter, and very good shielding. It will be hard to beat the Mogami 2549, but there are heavier duty shielded twisted pair cables available. Just thicker and less flexible.

The challenge with long IC’s is it becomes cost prohibitive to experiment with several runs. I have run 5 meter RCA’s for a few years and have owned 4 different cables, all slightly different effects.

Tara Labs .8 - good, slightly lean in my system and too expensive. Sold it.
Kubala Sosna Fascination - warm, rich. Maybe too much, Sold it.
Purist Audio Venustas - best overall balance and in your price range.
MIT EVO 2 - open, clear, good balance.

Thats in my system so obviously YMMV! Worth a long run to clean up the soundstage and the space between your speakers. Good luck!

Thanks, guys, for the thoughts. Most likely, I'll stay with what I have, as I still haven't found a supplier that accepts returns on long lengths. BTW, I've also tried Gotham GAC 4/1, and any differences were nominal.
