Default Control Mac - Mojave 10.14.1

Since my laptop upgraded to Mac OS Mojave 10.14.1, Control Mac has become unstable. In fact, there was a pop up message "warning" that the App (on both iPhone and iPad) will not work properly.

The Control Mac will not stay working for more than 5 mins (import, export or backup) where the program will just ended up being a blank. Had notified local dealer about the problem, but so far, no news that Meridian will be issuing a new update so that the Control Mac will work seamlessly again with the new Mac OS Mojave.

Anyone experiencing same issue or hear anything about an upgrade forthcoming for the Control Mac?

While Meridian has the UI experience for me, its now pushing me to change gears to wither the Aurender N10 or AS10. What's stopping me is my lack of knowledge on how to transfer my 4TB of files over to the Aurender.

Looking for some advise here, about a change/upgrade to the Control Mac software forthcoming or ..... change to an Aurender would be better?

Thanks ....

I received the same message when I upgraded to Mojave. Fortunately I now use Roon for 99% of my listening. I do have one laptop I keep with a much older version of OSX that I could use in an emergency or the iPad version for normal listening.

I posted a message on the Meridian Unplugged site months ago warning of the problem.

Thanks Jim. Looks like Meridian is NOT coming out with a Control Mac that works with Mac OS Mojave? OMG! Thats not good news! This will affect not only Sooloos users but their System Combo sales, if they know what this meant. No one is going to like this as now, we are unable to add (import), backup or export new music without hassle.

Here is a reply from Meridian sent to a guy on another site.

Good afternoon Andy,

Thank you for contacting Meridian.

Ongoing changes made by Apple to MacOS have led us to decide there will be no further development of “Control Mac” for Sooloos. We do however continue to support the alternative program “Control:PC” in order to provide maintenance functionality for Sooloos systems from computers running Windows.

One of the factors which influenced us on this matter is the option for Mac users to use the alternative program “Control:PC” within PC-emulator software on their machines. Using such a set-up also provides the option of using our more advanced control interface program “Touch PC”. Although the full functionality of Touch PC is accessed with a touchscreen-equipped PC, it also works well without a touchscreen; using a mouse and a keyboard. We find that many Sooloos users have Touch PC for their day-to-day listening while reserving Control:PC for tasks relating to the maintenance and curation of their music collection.

Regards,

Meridian Support Team

My response. Forget Meridian and Windows. I'll stick with Roon and Mac.

Or dump Meridian and move on altogether. Guess I have to seek out knowledge how to convert those backed-up Meridian FLAC files (understand its unique to Meridian) to common FLAC so I can use them on "Normal" streamers. I am totally disgusted at Meridian's customer support attitude. Luckily the only thing I have today is the Core 200. Thanks Jim for the information.

The FLAC files in Sooloos are regular FLAC files. Nothing Meridian-specific about them. What does happen when you import FLAC into Sooloos, the filenames are changed to Track 01.FLAC and so on.

The backup format is a different beast that’s only suitable for restore back into Sooloos.

Best thing to do is a native export from Sooloos if you want to stream with other products.

Thanks everyone for the time and kind advise/support.

Solutions so far:

1. Downgrade MacBook Pro to OS High Sierra or Sierra - which works with Control Mac.
2. Partition the MacBook Pro and use Boot Camp to install Windows 10. Thats needs spending like S$369 I think for the software.
3. But a cheap Windows laptop. This costs even more.

So, think I will do the first ... downgrade and keep, copy Jim's method of keeping a old MacBook to do this job.

Long term - find time to export from Native Sooloos to standard FLAC files and store that in a HDD for use on other gears.
