Default Is there room for an oppo 105 in my setup?

Im very close to getting my hands on a c2300 before they disappear. I was thinking of getting a D100 to go with it but will use it purely as a DAC stage before the c2300.

What I'm trying to figure out is if there would be any reason to get an oppo 105 over the oppo 103 if I get the d100. If there are reasons, what are they? If the consensus is that the 103 would be the better option should it run through the d100 or straight to the c2300?

Thanx

-- Hi John,

What type of connection are you going to use? Digital HDMI, XLR Balanced analog, both?

And what is the most use you'll get from a Universal Blu-ray player; watching movies (Blu-rays & DVDs), listening to music CDs, SACDs, DVD-Audios, music/video streaming, USB, ... what are your main movie/music mediums (formats)?

Do you have other digital sources that can use a better DAC? ...Even from your PC or Mac?
Are you into Headphone music listening?

Analog connection, can you benefit from that; like your pre/pro and speakers are high resolution?

Here's what I truly think:

With such nice components like the McIntosh C2300, and the D100, stay at that similar high level; get the 105.
...And explore both the analog and digital worlds from all of them components.

That's what I would do, and I would have a lot of fun too experimenting and listening, from various possible combinations.
Besides, at that high level I'm not asking myself about the price/performance difference between the Opo 103 and 105;
I'd simply get the 105.

I would go with the 105 and the 2300. You can use the USB DAC in the 105 should you choose to rip your CD's to a lossless format and use a PC/Mac for playback. I also think having the analog inputs on the 2300, PLUS (and this is a big one), tubes in your line stage is sonically superior, PLUS a phono stage to boot.

A 2300 + a Oppo 105 is what I would call a very SMART setup.

Mike

I will have a Mac mini for most digital music, I have a DVD changer, and a playstation 3 as well. The oppo is to give me superior blu Ray and cd playback capability and the added capability of Sacd. My system is a hybrid. A full ht setup with a marantz 7005, 2 mono blocks, and a surround amp. A full music setup c2300, Mac mini, technics sl-23 tt, and mc275 vi, oppo. It is/will be all on the same rack as I only have 1 room to use in my home.

I will be using coax-DVD changer, optical-ps3, Mac mini-USB, xlr from oppo to 2300.

Am I reading correctly that I shouldn't get a d100? Or are you saying a 105 in addition to a d100?

Oppo 105 instead of the D100. You don't need a D100 and 2300. The 2300 with a Oppo 105 will give you sonic advantages and functional advantages over a D100/Oppo 103.

Default D100

Not to mention saving $1k, which I can use toward the first of 2 mc275's. Is the dac portion of the oppo superior to the d100?

I doubt you could tell that much of a difference. Both use the SABRE ESS chipset. You are better off to save for a DAC which is DSD compatible, such as the Meitner MA-1. If you find yourself getting heavy into digital (like me!) - then you be glad you took this direction. The D100 does not handle DSD natively. I would personally never take a D100 over a glorious tubed 2300 with phono stage, analog inputs, etc. The Oppo 105 will give you all the digital inputs and digital functionality you could want - for now.

You're on the right course. Save the difference for a Meitner MA-1 DAC or other components, turntable, speakers, cables, whatever. The 2300 with the Oppo 105 is a very smart start.

The 275 MK6 is also excellent. What's the rest of your setup?

Mike

Sonus faber liuto floorstander - American cherry, marantz av7005, 2 x emotiva xpa1, emotiva xpa-5, aperion verus grand center & soon to have 4 x verus grand bookshelf as surrounds, soon to have jl f113 x 2.

Components are a Sony DVD changer, playstation 3, Mac mini, and soon an oppo 105.

My system will go through quite a growth spurt over the next 3 months with the addition of the f113s, c2300, oppo 105 and Mac mini.

This is my ht setup, it is also my first setup. I started out on a quest for movies but have since switched my priorities to music as film doesn't evoke the same emotion that great jazz or a Stevie Ray Vaughn guitar solo does. I plan to have a system that focuses heavily on digital music so a good dac is important to me.

My music system will be a c2300, oppo 105, Mac mini, my dad's old tech ics sl-23 tt, and 1 (eventually 2) mc275 vi.

I figure this will keep me busy/happy until I can afford mc601s and canton reference 2.2dc's in piano black a few years from now.
