The original Gold Lion KT88's were made by Britain's General Electric Company (GEC). They were branded as Gold Lion and Gold Monarch in the US not to confuse American consumers into thinking they were made by the US company General Electric (GE).
The current production Gold Lion's are made by New Sensor Corp. who bought the rights to the name Gold Lion and are manufactured in their Saratov, Russia production plant. Although there is some similarity to the two, they're different tubes. Here's a shot of some original Gold Monarchs. Note the solid, black plates. These are the Gold Lion reissues. Note the three hole, grey plates. There are other physical differences, as well. Last edited by Joe Appierto; 02-01-2013 at 08:00 PM. Reason: Insert pictures |

Like I've said before, I'm really not a fan of reissue tubes. Their cheap, but totally different than the originals, if you can still get some, lol GO NOS!

Are you using MM or MC, if I might ask? I'm thinking of using GLs in the MM section, but also of using an outboard unit into the line stage with GLs there, likely the Parasound JC3. Haven't decided. It's likely the 2300's onboard phono is better than my current phono preamp in any case.
