The Cary Audio SLP-05 goes great with Mcintosh solid state amps.

You might look at the Parasound P5 preamp.

Consider just going DAC direct and avoiding a preamp altogether-
Tons of choices there.

I've tried going direct with different DACs over the years. Although the resolution is better, in my experience, I have always preferred the preamplifier in the chain for texture and dynamics. The direct method, even with an active preamp and volume control built in, always sounds thin to my ear.

A similar item is the (discontinued) OPPO HA-1. Very good DAC, fully balanced class-A output for headphone and pre-amp sections. Also, a half-chassis design. I do own this. If you are a single source input (like me), this is a great solution. I think there a few popping up on ebay.

I think the Hegel P20 would be an excellent option. I've heard it paired with an MC152 and was impressed. Since your only source will be digital music and if you'd like a less expensive option, you could give the Cambridge Audio CXN v2 network player a try. It's a feature loaded network streamer that can double as a preamp. Streamlined look at only 3.4 inches high. You can also order it directly from them or Music Direct with a satisfaction guarantee. Just have to pay return shipping if you decide you don't want it.
