I received this 3 SACD set today and started with disc one's pairing of No.1 and 4. It certainly lives up to the rave reviews I've read, including this one: http://www.musicweb-international.co...ys_BIS2076.htm. At $25 from Amazon sellers, this is quite a bargain!

Stravinsky, The Soldiers Tale
So I'm in the car listening to NPR and they are about ready to review a recording. I'm not really listening, but sort of listening. They say, "Stravinsky," and I start to pay attention. Then they say, "Roger Waters," (Pink Floyd) and now I'm on high alert. The new release is Roger Waters narrating, backed by seven members of the Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival. This is an absolute delight to listen to. I've streamed it and have ordered the CD. Here is a link to the entire album on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcVQ8sgacyw Happy New Year! - Bob

Arvo Pärt
Hi, guys. Happy New Year...
Arvo Pärt Darf ich… Fratres (for Violin & Orchestra) Passacaglia Silentium (from Tabula rasa) Spiegel im Spiegel Tabula Rasa Viktoria Mullova (violin) Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Paavo Järvi Got a few discs under the Christmas tree. This is one is excellent. I would describe it as reflective music - very nice. And the recorded sound is quite good. Recommended! Last edited by cma29; 01-03-2019 at 06:06 PM. |

Mahler: Symphony No. 6
Here is another...
Mahler: Symphony No. 6 MusicAeterna, Teodor Currentzis This guy Currentis is on a roll. His Pathetique from earlier this year was one of the highlights of 2018 and this new Mahler effort is...wow - just intense. It brings the music to life and the Sony recording is vivid and dynamic. This one is a winner. |

Good stuff. Only moderately dissonant and highly virtuosic at times. Shawn is quite a pianist, too. Fun fact: His brother is actor Wallace Shawn!
