A server is better imo just for the space savings, let alone the access. I wish my Apple Mac Mini could do this with all the codecs. Since HT is well below music in my set of priorities, I'm ok with the occasional rented movie on iTunes, whatever's on the DVR or the occasional DVD, although DVD usage is probably over now that they shut down a couple Blockbusters around here.

Just curious if you ever used Media Monkey? It's a free download with more options than I-tunes. I-tunes was made popular for Apple and I-pod's.
Media Monkey was made for P.C.'s and works with I-pods. I just finished ripping all my cd's to my P.C. FLAC format. It's been 32 hours and there still backing up to my external Hard Drive, Then I'll back them up to 2 more P.C. hard drives. I know, sound compulsive, but I spent 3 days ripping them to my western digital 1tb drive and it failed when I was on my last 3 cd's. I was pissed to say the least. It won't happen again unless 4 separate hard drives fail at once. hmmmmm what are the odds. |

I have a 2TB and growing hard drive connected to my MacBook as my movie server. I have about 200 movies so far.

Just curious any use "copy dvd gold" from Best Buy? I assume its the new version of dvd x copy that was removed due to copyright infringements. Its states it copies DVD's and Blu Rays to blank disc or your hard drive. Just wondering if it really works before I invest $60.00 so far my program has been working great for DVD's but NOT Blu Ray.
* Oh Ya, I don't condone copying any pirated software for financial gain, I disagree with the f.b.i. disclaimer. We should ALL the right to archive movies and music we legally paid for.* Last edited by crytklmass; 11-26-2009 at 11:13 PM. |

+1 on the movie server. 1.5 TB hard drives are now $100. Getting rid off all the trailers and garbage is well worth the price of admission. I've beeen using an HTPC as a server for about 7 years now. Blu-Ray is more difficult than conventional DVD but it works.
