I think it might depend on your amp and speakers, and music others here could verify that. But for me 55 is my usual setting on most music. Enjoy that preamp. Mine has just over 200 hours and sounds great!

Both of the Ref 75 and ref 5 are dealer demo units.
I did order the ref5se but I have another week or so to decide on either ref 150 or ref75.
At this point I can go either units. This is a tough decision for me. Unfortunately I won't be able to audition a ref 150 as dealer don't have one.
Comes January 5 I have to decide. Choices choices choices.

Wait until you get the ref 5se before you choose the power amp. But even then, it won't be burned in. Still, you will get a good idea of the sound. Anyway ...you weren't sure about the 75 having enough guts. What do you think now?

Oh and as for the volume question, there is no right answer! It's wholly dependent on your source and speakers.

Thanks. Rrf75 has power to drive P3esr. My volume around 40 to 60 depend on source materials.
I do know from experience that more power has a nice effortless sound which is also nice to have. However I know ref 150 might be overkill for harbeth P3esr but I know harbeth shl5 can definitely take all that power. But I also have accuphase a70 power amp which drives anything under the sun.

80 > 86 into ML CLX Anniversaries with no 'ringing ears' bordering on 3D surround sound with the right recordings.

Interesting, I'm using around 15-20 (0-30 min/max) with REF3 / VT200mkII / CLX Anniv. Sources are REF CD7 and REF PH2SE (high gain) from Lyra Titan i, all fully balanced.
