While waiting on the replacement top platform for the Cloud 11, I'm also returning to contemplation of a system reconfiguration, as I still wonder if the Sanus Euro rack will gain a bit of stability by being shorter. The hope is to avoid any additional purchases should the Cloud 11 later prove to be an incomplete solution to the footfall issues I've had; so far, so good though.

The middle shelf's 8" pillars can be swapped out for 5" ones, and what I would then do is remove my Aragon 47k phono preamp (1994!) since the 5" shelf space would be too short for both it and my VPI SDS. I don't know if the 3" shorter Sanus rack will be any more stable, but Mr. Vu didn't pooh-pooh the idea when I mentioned it to him. It won't hurt, and it may be a visual improvement, so why not? The next step would be to re-tube the C2300's phono section and use it instead (tubes in-house already). Removing the 47k also allows me to replace the 1m WW Stratus on my Furman Elite 15-PFi (already removed from my signature in anticipation) with the Transparent HPPC on the Aragon's IPS power supply now. Thus, I save the expense of buying another PC. I have PS Audio Jewel ACs I could use, but don't need the extra length's clutter (the Jewels are 1.5m and 2m), plus I think the HPPC's a better cord. I'd prefer a Shunyata Venom HC on the Furman but, again, don't need/want the extra length. I'm not sure how much of a difference this PC swap will make sound-wise, but sound isn't the point.

Ok. I received the replacement platform for my Cloud 11 and installed it Sunday. Gingko does nice work! Today I played an album and experienced no issues with footfalls or movement. I like that. And, I don't think I was holding back in walking around the room.

Unfortunately, my planned system reconfiguration will have to be put aside in favor of a new one when I can figure it out. My tuner is too tall to make it into a 5" shelf, so I need another plan. This means moving things around and possibly new interconnects to accommodate the changes, while maintaining a visually pleasing aesthetic. I wasn't planning on spending any money on this (the checking account needs a break), so I'll have to get creative.

I'm glad you like the Cloud 11.
Not only for footfall problems, but I found there was a major improvement in clarity, cleaner tighter bass and improved soundstaging all for a modest price.

And here, finally, is a rather dark photo of the Gingko with my old warhorse VPI on it. As long as I've had my digital camera (2010), I've yet to learn how to use it well.

Among the Luxman PD-151, Sota Sapphire and Technics SL-1200G, which would you say is the best bang for the buck? Thinking of replacing my VPI, and these three are my list to this point. They also represent my price range. One thing they'd all have in common is an arm with a detachable headshell (putting my SME 309 on the Sapphire). The Sota is known for vibration resistance and the Technics is decent in that regard too, supposedly.

As a DD and non-suspended TT fan I would go with the Technics. The Technics have been rock-solid TT/TA combinations for many years and the latest renditions have been reported to be the best.

BTW - since SME was sold the new owner(s) has/have increased the price of their audio gear substantially. So much so that I decided to rewire my existing TA rather than go with a new SME 310. You might even turn a profit selling your 309.

SOTA has some pretty sweet tech & material advancements in their new VI-series Sapphire and Nova, that probably should be being talked about more in audiophile circles. And they were excellent tables even before that! I love my Nova V (Started as a Star III), but wish I'd waited to do the rebuild to VI specs.

I e-mailed SOTA a week ago; haven't heard from them. Maybe I'll try again soon. On the other hand, I also e-mailed Ohm and they got back to me the next day regarding their speakers. I like that.

There's also the Pro-Ject Xtension 10 lurking out there, but I was told to get a detachable headshell I'd have to go for an Xtension 12 or a Signature. Bummer. But that was last year, maybe things have changed.

One thing about the Technics I liked was with certain cartridges, apparently you don't need to connect wires and such you just plug it right into the headshell because of a special mount for those cartridges. On another SL 1200 there was an Ortofon set up this way; the rep just plugged it in and it was ready to go. Convenient!

This is one of the primary reasons I like my Stax TA. Like the Technics, has the SME International headshell. I'm in the process of weight headshells, mounting hardware, cartridges and headshell leads. My plan is to mix & match until every cartridge/headshell/etc. combo is within 0.1g so can set the VTF at 2.1g and then swap cartridges without having to redo VTF, etc. As you say, very convenient.
