If I owned a pair of LCD-4 I would seriously consider the amp made specifically for them. https://www.audeze.com/products/amplifiers/king-mkii Notice the King MKII is rated at 6W into 20 ohms, not some paltry 1.2W.

You can hook them up directly to the MC275 output if you are careful.
Interesting thought. The MC 275 is at our lake house - when I get there later this year I'll try it out. I'll bet the MC 2301's would drive the LCD-4 as well. 1 watt into 200 ohms is 14 Vrms. That's 25 watts into 8 ohms. Any low power speaker amp will work nicely.

That looks like a very nice amp - Bascom H. King is a great designer.

Be careful with that idea it’s not without risk.

My cans drive amazingly easy and sound fantastic with the following upgraded headphone amp.

Woo Audio WA-6SE with Sophia Princess & matched pair of 6GL7/6EM tubes

Look at the Woo Balanced amps too, very nice with upgraded tubes and plenty of power to drive anything I have seen, even the demanding HD800s.
WAWA22 is almost the same as my WA63 but is all one unit rather than a separate power supply, and has balanced inputs and outputs.

Default RMAF Best Sounding Headphone Amp

So I'm not sure if this is balanced, (don't think it was) but to me it had the best sound at RMAF 2017. It was on display in the mojo audio room.

This thing was crazy - big 20B triode tubes, massive case, volume knob the size of a baby's head. Loads of detail, tonal richness, and great orchestral layering.

Indeed! Did you see the pictures of the inside? It is definitely "handcrafted".

Default BAck to balanced

Now back to balanced.....

This new offering from Woo also sounded excellent! It is the WA-33 and was on display at RMAF 2017 for the very first time. I got the chance to speak with Jack Wu at length about his products, headphones, and audio in general. I think he's a sharp guy who makes great products. This amp driving a variety of headphones sounded great. I heard the big Abyss, HiFIMan HE 1000V2, and Mr. Speakers Aeon FLow.

Looks interesting but that is a hefty price tag.
