It may be titled "Aretha Sings the Blues", but its jazz ballads rather than blues. She's just singing about being blue............. Listening on a set of AKG wireless headhones and a portable amp/DAC thru the Bluetooth aptX codec from a FLAC file. It is pretty decent. Certainly convenient and easy to use.

The Essential collection: Al Bowlly. As you do. '30's crooner with top blighty dance bands of the time, and some jazzy type stuff. Toe tapping indeed. Unearthed during a rummage. He was a big star in his day, and one of the bands made hay over the pond.

I just started streaming this 5-CD box via Tidal.
Very decent sound.
Basie's big band in top form!

Ben Sluijs Quartet - Particles
via Qobuz

New release by the Belgian flute player and saxophonist.
We saw him with his quartet a couple of months ago, and it was a very good concert.
This is a good album.

If you enjoy the piano trio, I strongly recommend Mehldau's latest...

He's always had good rapport with Grenadier and Ballard, but his wanderings and key changes were sometimes tiresome in his early releases. With his 2016 'Blues and Ballads' release, and now definitely with this one, the arrangements are more coherent and structured IMO. With this release, they've come close to equaling the brilliance of Jarrett/Peacock/DeJohnette. Without the vocal 'stylings' Jarrett insists upon uttering. Whether good or bad subject to personal opinion. I think it's for the better. Superior sound by Nonesuch.

Just listened (quite) a bit more.
What an energetic band the Count had that time.
