The B&W sub I had before the DB series (ASW800) worked marvelously using RCA.

I initially traded my DB2D back to my dealer for the DB1D
Ah, this could explain the difference in our results--I had immediate success using the balanced output from my C22 to DB3D. (I think I'm at -1db)

I want to reiterate the DB1D is a fine sub, my complaint is with the way it mates with the 805D3, or, doesn't mate, that I feel was a mistake by the B&W engineers. To get the DB1D to sound right with the 805D3 (in stereo mode/input), the gain is at 8db (out of 10dB), and the equalizer settings are all set at 3dB and above (5dB being the max). If this sub was designed correctly, after choosing the 805D3 as the speaker, the settings would not need adjusting as much as I have had to adjust mine to get it to perform right

Crickets from B&W. They treat me like an anomaly even though the district rep agrees with my assessments

Joey,

Which JL did you get? How do you have it connected? Was it challenging to integrate?

Thanks,

Michael

so if I understand well, connecting db subwoofer to XLR will give better sound pressure level than connected to RCA, even without the circuit inside the amplifier being really unbalanced ?

I have no audible output (cones are moving) on an DB2D on E600 Accuphase RCA pre-out, even with all gains set to maximum.
So I will try balanced pre-out.

I have excellent results using XLR from my pre. None of my other cables are balanced.

Just to clarify--is this a new set up purchased from a dealer? If yes, I would insist that your dealer help you before the time for risk-free return lapses.

Good luck

It is a case of the engineers thinking they know more than the customer who is actually using this poorly designed product and getting unacceptable performance and even worse support in correcting this issue.
