I need help. Please

I have a near mint Sansui turntable FR-3060
When I tried to use it the belt was lose
So I got a new belt. With the old and with the NEW belt the speed is way to fast. For the 33.5 speed it’s at 44 plus and at 45 it’s at 52plus speed. I’m using the iPhone app RPM and everything I have found about this app is that it’s pretty close to being spot on
The table even has spare capstan and I installed it, the old one had some old belt rubber on it. And after replacing the capstan the speed is even faster. I can’t find any info online other the people saying they had or have the same problem and the would rap Black electrical tape around the platter belt ring and some had somewhat good luck at getting the speed down to 33.5
I don’t really care to do this band-Aid fix
I like to find out if there is some type of resister or capacitor or something on the motor speed control board that I could replace to get the speed back under control to its proper speed’s.

I’m not familiar with this table, does it have an A/C motor, and is it possible it came from overseas, or had the motor replaced? Some tables built for a 50hz power market will run fast if converted to US 60hz.

I think Tony (Antonmb) may be on to something. Your TT uses a synchronous motor so the speed is dependent on the power line frequency.

A 50 Hz TT will run 20% faster on 60 Hz. <60/50=1.2>

The speed you are seeing is not exactly 20% off. <44/33.3=1.33> but I still think this is the issue.

Usually there were two separate capstans- one for 50 Hz and one for 60 Hz.

You might take the TT apart and see if the 60 Hz capstan is stowed in there anywhere.

Good luck!

Tom

Is the belt that you installed a direct replacement or a generic belt.
On my Kenwood rock if you get a belt that's not just like the original it will run fast.

I did read both the manual and the repair manual and I did not see anywhere that it says the it has a 50hz capstan and a 60hz capstan. Just that it has a extra capstan
Only a small paragraph about how to change it to 50hz and it does not say anything about having to change the capstan when doing so

Thanks for all the information
I’ll let you know what I find out

Does your Kenwood have a speed-control knob (can adjust the speed up or down with it)? If so, try a shot of Deoxit into the pot the knob is connected to and work it back and forth a few times to clean the wiper surface.

I looked at the service manual on Vinyl Engine.

The parts list shows a 60 Hz capstan in Figure 6-2 item 108, p/n 6142203.

50 Hz capstan is shown in Figure 6-1 item 116, p/n 6142193 and it appears to be stowed somewhere under the platter.

Are your two capstans the same diameter?

Tom

I’ll recheck them to see. I did read all of the manual and the only part I seen about 50 or 60hz was about the button that has a bar over it with a screw in it to keep it from being accident moved by accident and its set to 60hz by default
But I will go back over and check
