I second that. Maybe next year it is time for a full-time Media Server
and the Silenzio is the leading candidate based on the feedback and
features.

Jim (Weirdcuba) and I just got off the phone talking about the exact same thing.

Also, He even has been A/B'ing rips from some service he used awhile back versus the Archive-grade ripping of Silenzio... I'll let him chime in for his views on that.

About the only thing I could tell him was "I'm sorry." (that the difference was that dramatic).

No comparison between the silenzio rips and those from the service. I've just developed a project for the next few months ... re-ripping the entire colllection, but doing it right this time. Not kidding - to my ear, the silenzio rips sound better from the silenzio than the spinning cd on a mega buck dp900/dc901 combo.

One of the important differentiators for me was the ability to use the silenzio to capture content only available via cd (as I had no other spinner with which to do so and didn't want to add another box to the Mac mini). Mission accomplished - the rips sound fantastic.

Worked from home today and ripped some melody gardot, hot rize, allman brothers, ben Webster and los lobos. Each one of the rips sounds better than the cd (although this is audio recollection, which is not worth much). The ability to make great rips though from the SAME BOX that serves up the sound is just awesome. Still, the best sounding, highest functioning bang for the buck in my system (and I hate to mention the bang for the buck, because it sounds great on an absolute or relative basis, but it's such an awesome price to SQ ratio, I have to mention it).

This is very interesting. I am following Dan's report regarding the Aurender N10 and he concludes that it's files sounds "just as good" as via a CD transport.
In order for me to invest in a digital system I want it to sound better than från the cd. Otherwise I will keep spinning those silver discs until such a device surface

bigblue.......That is not what I said. I said the playback from the N10 sounds as good as the playback from the Esoteric K-03 transport. I'm sure you know there are tremendous differences in compact disc playback from one manufacturer and model to the next. When flac files from a music server sound equal to the K-03 you have something. If flac files from your server sound better than your CD player then perhaps a better CD player is needed.

Sorry for the confusion. I should have written "just as good" as via a Esoteric K-03 transport.
I am not ready to make the transfer to hard drive based music until the flac-files sounds better in my set up. But considering your superior transport it suggests that the N10 will surpass my Oppo 105 transport.
The hesitant stance comes from the impressions I have from listening to a 30 000 USD MSB dac+transport. It was fantastic - but when putting on a vinyl on a top notch turntable (in the same system) it left the digital in the dirt.
