Default I Need A Tuner

I am upgrading my pre-amp/processor and my new unit does not have a tuner.
  • I'd like to get a new, or relatively new unit, that includes a remote.
  • It doesn't have to have a streamer function but I do have Ethernet available so I am not opposed to it.
  • Obviously a 75 ohm antenna hook up is needed.
  • The slimmer the better.

What would you recommend and why?

Thanks in advance for your input!!!

Check out Magnum Dynalab, they make excellent tuners, at reasonable prices w/ remotes.

You could look at the Arcam T32 if you want Dab as well.

I was recently set on buying an analogue Accuphase T-1100 tuner & my Dealer recommended I check out the Micromega Aria Airdream. The MM is a high end streamer (no ethernet) which is capable of streaming internet radio stations from either Itunes or using Airfoil, as well as music files from Windows Media, VLC, J River etc or even directly from sites such as Deezer or Spotify. This thing is really cool. I was in my Dealer's showroom and we streamed lossless WAV files directly from my 64GB Iphone 5! The circuit design, components and overall build quality are all excellent. As for remote controls, just use your Iphone or Ipad I was impressed enough to jump ship!

Here is a link to the product page. The User guide is posted as a pdf at the bottom of the page - ARIA

Michael.......I see you have a Sonos in your two channel rig. You have access to Internet radio with it. If you want a terrestrial FM tuner try to find a nice McIntosh MR74 AM/FM tuner. Excellent analog tuner that would fit right into your system and not cost an arm and a leg.

Thanks for the input, Dan. My needs go beyond the analog tuner I already have. I'd like to be able to switch stations from my Control 4 based app on the iPad.

Analogs don't seem to do that very well. I don't route the Sonos signal through my MR-77 or C28, which are used for local FM only at this time.

I do love my MR-77 for that pure sweet sound, though.

Good pick up Dan, I'm not familiar with the Soonos, but it would seem there is some crossover in features (with the MM). I'm not very familiar with media pad control apps, but I have a friend who uses a programmable remote and controls his whole system with that...but it's a b**** to program. Maybe there are IPad apps that can do the same thing without the Post grads?

Some of the programming can be a bit complicated, David.

At one time I was using several programs and different interfaces for each system until I got integrated. Now it's all controlled by an iPad downstairs (Control 4) and an iPad upstairs (Sonos) for delivery of all music.

I do have JRiver Media Center operating on two laptops in case some direct headphone listening is desired but that's not done very often.
