Default Thank you for the welcome...

And the suggestions regarding moving up and around...I am really looking forward to spending time with Matt and attempting to figure out our next step. Regarding the prospective change, I expect that it will be down to speaker vs. pre-amp, all else being equal...

One thing that I did not list in my introduction, and I have noted in previous posts above, is that I am now using Bob's Devices 1131 SUT. I did a brief comparison between it and my Auditorium A23 (base) SUT. I kept the 1131 (in a 10:20 gain configuration)...It does match very well, as does the A23, with the EMT cartridge. One of the things that I will need to discuss with Matt, should we go down the preamp route, is what to do with the internal SUT on the Shindo units...I plan on packing the 1131 when I go visit...
Best, Jonathan K

Hi Jonathan- My guess is Matt will say not to worry about the built in Lundahl SUT, if you go to a Monbrison/Massetto...! It will be there if you need it, if in the future you go w/ a lower impedance cart.
As you know, with your Tsd-15, it is not optimal. I have a Tsd-15 also, great cartridge. I have the A23 (Denon 103) SUT, and the Choir Hashimoto H-7, which I think Sibelius referred to earlier. I slightly prefer the Hashimoto, for most types of music I listen to. Of course, my A23 was around $900, and my H-7 was $1,600. I would certainly take the 1131 BLUE along to Matt's, as you had planned. As mentioned here on another thread, you could have Shindo build you a preamp sans the built in SUT. This would give you two MM inputs, allowing for connections for two outboard SUT's. I think Matt had recently posted it would save $400 to forgo the Lundahl.... IMHO, you are on the right track, thinking about speaker or preamp. I went from the wonderful DeVore Nines to the 0/96's last year. As Sibelius mentioned, your Montille may prove to be a very nice match, if they are within your $ range. I also know of another AA member, who went from an Aurieges to the Monbrison. He was quite happy with the upgrade. Matt has quite the candy store, I am sure you won't leave hungry.

I think the Masseto was one of the great improvements in my system... I think probably more meaningful than the Hommage or the Cortese (previously had A23 regular step-up for SPU and the Monbrison into Montille). I don't know whether it's the presence of output transformers or what, but there's something outstandingly & vividly solid about music through the Masseto that's tremendously involving and ultimately satisfying and final.

(Interesting on the SUT question - I believe Art Dudley in the latest issue of Stereophile says that he sometimes prefers the built-in Shindo step-ups to the A23s, even the Hommage - first time I've ever heard anyone say that. I'll give a try... sometime.)

Anyway, hello everyone. This is my first post on the forum.

Patrick

Hi Patrick -

Not sure you have been back here for some time.
I know you are seriously into music, and the system you have put together looks wonderful - but... Why the Snell K's? A great bookshelf speaker from the 1980's, but even your interconnects cost several times what these are worth, let alone any of your electronics - my point being you clearly could have chosen more expensive "typical" mates to Shindo.

What was it about the pairing that really appealed to you

(unless I completely made a mistake on remembering what the K's were!)
